How to create awesome characters illustrations

If you’re looking from something unusual or something that would attract a lot of attention. Each character has its own emotional display that will give your designs a very special feeling and meaning. That’s why I’ll try to show you how to create unique and great looking character for your design and I hope you’ll find this tutorial helpful.

It’ll make this much easier. It is important to make an outline of your characters so you will know the characters and can make them realistic. Here is an idea that I came up with for you to plan your characters.

But before you get started creation character illustration I’d like to mention that if you have not read any other tutorials, for example drawing human, animals, and practiced of drawing anatomy for them just a little, you have to do this before get started this tutorial. I’m not recommending you to start do this before, but if you want anyway – you are welcome! Some important things in drawing characters is their face and hair.

First gather all the necessary materials you will need to do some basic sketching. Find some sketch paper or buy a medium-sized sketch pad and various pencils that you are comfortable using for characters illustrations. Think about personality of the character. The characteristics need to definitely fit the personality of the character. After that, you will draw a circle in the middle of your paper, then, you will draw smaller circles or squares around the middle circle. After that, you will draw lines from the middle circle to the smaller circles or squares. Sketch is ready.

Now begin with the face of your character. Starting with a circle, add a rounded triangle shape to the bottom of the circle for the chin and cheekbones. Make the face very expressive. The eyes alone give away very much of the character’s personality. Eyes can look nervous, frightened, thoughtful, confident or suspicious. The shape of face is very important in indicating the age of the character. Youthful faces are round with big, round eyes. Mean faces are often long and skinny with small, beady eyes.

Note: Depending on the style don’t let the eyes get too big. If the style is a bit less “cartoonish” feel, free to do more to the clothing and hair.

Then draw the character standing in the correct posture. It’s one of the most interesting part in characters illustrations. A character with broad shoulders that stands tall is probably brave or confident.

Outgoing are big and bold. Arms and feet apart. Just as much as looks matter in making someone cute, it’s also in the body language.

Clothing is another thing. The right clothes are very important in characters illustrations. Depending on the character, type clothing can vary; but, something that can fly in the wind is good. Pay special attention to where your character lives and draw them accordingly. If she lives in a cold climate, give her heavy clothing or protective skin or armor. If your character is water dwelling, ensure that she has adequate biological features to survive. Be it frills and bows, or a simple straight dress.

Now it’s turn of drawing details:

I would recommend drawing hair next. If your not the best at hair, draw it short for now. It’s fun and easy! To add atmosphere to the picture, draw the hair blowing in the wind.

Next is drawing the accessories. From the beginning try to draw a ribbon around neck, and a hair piece to hold back a small section of her hair if you character is a woman.

Finally, all you have to do is darken the lines with ink or marker and it is done! My congratulations! You know the way how to create characters illustrations.
